Mountain Pet Rescue Asheville is looking to hire a new team member in our medical department! We are a foster based cat and dog rescue that has placed nearly 5,000 animals in just over 5 years. Our mission is “Connecting People with Pets in Need.” We are looking for help at our Candler offices (HQ) for 20-25 hours/week with weekend availability required and some evening availability preferred, but it will be mostly week day shifts. Pay range is $14-$15/hour depending on experience with a raise after 90 days with good performance. We offer discounts on vet care for your personal pets and can order pet food and supplies for a discounted rate as well. Please review the job description/responsibilities below:
Responsibilities for Medical Department include, but not limited to:
- Intake incoming animals following current protocols and thoroughly examine each animal
- Vaccinating, microchipping, drawing blood, medicating, applying flea/tick medicine, etc.
- Keep up with list of meds/supplies that need to be ordered
- Go through files of pets going to upcoming events and make sure all animals are up to date
- Thoroughly check each file when foster pets come in or when animals are in the building to cut down on fosters needing to make additional trips
- Communicate with management any major medical concerns or upcoming needs
- Stay up to date with current best practices for shelter medicine and participate in continuing education opportunities
- Check on each animal staying at HQ during every shift
- Fill orders for medications prescribed by the MPR Vet or other veterinarians
- Responsibilities for
Responsibilities for Animal Care Specialist include, but not limited to:
- Walk dogs using secure equipment
- Feed dogs and clean their crates/pens
- Scoop cats/kittens and feed them
- Clean crates/shoreline/cat condos using the proper cleaning protocols
- Rotate laundry
- Keep lobby clean and free of clutter/put donations away
- Wash dishes
- Check to see if there are any big organization or cleaning projects to do
- Ask all fosters if they need any supplies and try and prepare piles of supplies when applicable
- Sweep and mop
- Take out trash
- Medicate animals
General Job Description/Duties for All Employees of MPR:
- Represent MPR in a positive, truthful and professional manner in the community and on social media.
- Be punctual to all shifts, events, and meetings
- Save lives <3
- Make sure that all animals at HQ, Thrift, Petsmart, or adoption events have fresh water, clean bedding, food when needed, and waste is cleaned up promptly and thoroughly
- Reply to ALL email correspondence and communications in a timely manner (within 3 days). Also, set an “away” message on your MPR email if you will not be checking it regularly for a vacation, etc.
- Always offer to carry items in or out for fosters, adopters, volunteers, or customers at thrift and at HQ
- Practice and encourage the humane treatment of animals
- Understand that there is ALWAYS something to do and stay productive
- Know how to properly complete an adoption
